Kangaroo Island is beautiful through the winter months. Being surrounded by sea, the climate is milder than the mainland.
  • The main penguin breeding season
  • Big whiting can be caught off Emu Bay
  • The countryside is lovely and green
  • Beautiful wildflowers including native orchids are emerging
  • Great bushwalking and beach-combing

Kangaroo Island is truly a destination for all seasons. The cooler winter months are ideal for long walks along deserted beaches and bush paths. Look for glossy black cockatoos and kangaroos. In the evenings you might see some wallabies and possums.

In the evenings penguins can be heard along the Emu Bay foreshore, chicks and parents calling to one another.

Being on the North Coast, Emu Bay tends to be sheltered from the stronger south westerly winds, however a visit to Cape de Couedic on a rough day is truly spectacular. Hours can be enjoyed watching the fur seals swimming in the turbulent Southern Ocean and attempting to land on the weathered rocks.

Photographic opportunities abound.
